Help Often Week 2026
Assemblies turning out to help our communities - a great focus at this time of year
Every year, Sunday Assemblies around the world take our Help Often motto and turn it into real, tangible action. The ten days around the end of April and start of May are a particular focus for this with our international Help Often Week 2026. Communities stepped up with generosity, creativity, and a whole lot of teamwork. Here’s a look at how Assemblies lived their values during Help Often Week 2026.
Sunday Assembly Atlanta
Atlanta focused their efforts on supporting families who are new to the United States, including recently arrived refugees.
Volunteers donated household supplies, many of which were purchased using funds from the American Empathy Project of the American Humanist Association
The team then packed more than 50 large bags filled with essentials for in‑need families
A beautiful example of practical kindness meeting real community needs.
Sunday Assembly Edinburgh
Edinburgh took their service outdoors with a spirited beach clean at Wardie Bay.
Volunteers collected a good haul of rubbish (five bags and a disused traffic cone!), helping keep the shoreline clean and welcoming for everyone at this popular wild swimming spot.
Simple, joyful, collective action — very Edinburgh.
Sunday Assembly Detroit
Detroit partnered with The Greening of Detroit to make a long‑term environmental impact.
Volunteers planted dozens of trees in and around Alfonso Wells Memorial Park
The park — home to the historic Birwood Wall — served as the home base as the team worked to beautify the city and create a lasting tree canopy for future generations
A powerful blend of environmental stewardship and community healing.
Sunday Assembly San Diego
San Diego packed their week with multiple acts of service.
Volunteers joined I Love a Clean San Diego for a park clean‑up
They assembled 250 meal kits in a “Sunday Assembly Line,” supported by a grant from the American Empathy Project
They also wrote letters to residents in retirement homes and completed an additional park clean‑up
A full spectrum of kindness — from environmental care to human connection.
Sunday Assembly East Bay
East Bay split their efforts between food education and food distribution.
At the Edible Schoolyard in Berkeley, volunteers dug out old growth from two garden patches to prepare them for summer planting of tomatoes, carrots, and corn
They also supported White Pony Express’s Food Rescue Program in Concord, helping prepare baskets for distribution to the community
Hands in the soil, hands in service — a perfect pairing.
Sunday Assembly Fort Worth
Fort Worth collaborated with Tarrant 4 Change and the Fort Worth Community Collaborative to support families and individuals across the city.
Volunteers helped with groceries for school kids, dog food packets, and more
They also organized shoes and clothes and added items to self‑care packets for distribution
A wide‑ranging effort that touched many corners of the community.
Thank You
To every Assembly that participated in Help Often Week 2026: thank you. Your actions — big and small — ripple outward and remind us what secular community can do when we show up for one another. Big thanks to Ross Llewallyn (Atlanta) for co-ordinating once again, and to Crista Lovis (Silicon Valley) for pulling all the results together.
